As of Monday June 1st the lockdown was eased slightly in Wales. Now people from two different households can meet each other outdoors as long as they stay two metres apart and remain within five miles of their home.
Today the government also announced that schools in Wales would reopen on June 29th but many people aren't happy with this. Some primary schools reopened in England this week with classes of maximum of 15 people.
It's been a crazy few days with protests (and riots) in the USA and also protests in the UK and numerous other countries since the death of George Floyd after a policeman allegedly kneeled on his neck for 8 minutes. The ensuing police brutality has been horrific to watch with them using tear gas and rubber bullets on protestors and the media. Some of the videos of Twitter have been terrifying and all Trump did was use tear gas to clear the crowds so that he could stroll over to the nearby church and pose with a bible. He truly is the biggest turd in the universe.
There have been huge crowds in Hyde Park today with what looks like no social distancing at all, although photos suggest that a lot of them were wearing masks. If there is a second wave coming then it's almost certainly on its way. However lots of people have been saying that this has actually been the second wave and that the first wave went undetected in January. Great news if that's the case. Others are also saying that the virus is weakening and it is becoming less easily transmitted. Again, fingers crossed that this is the case as it would appear that everyone seems to think that the lockdown is no longer in place.
The beach at Durdle Door was swarming with people enjoying the sunshine at the weekend and 3 people had to be airlifted to hospital after tombstoning off the Door. What morons.
I actually went to the beach myself on Saturday for the first time since lockdown. But I set my alarm fo 6.00am and cycled down to Barry Island. I had the beach pretty much to myself but I found it eerily quiet with the cafes and the road closed. It was wonderful to watch the waves lapping at the shore, but it felt very strange.
I was home bye 8.00am and spent a very lazy weekend in the garden reading a book. I've also been reading the BJP (British Journal of Photography) online as they did a special lockdown offer of just £1 for three months access. I've been devouring the back catalog.
In other news it rained today, not very much, but it made a change from the heat. Apparently this has been the sunniest May on record and water reserves are running low, so we could be heading towards a hosepipe ban.
Work is picking up with quotes and instructions. I've asked for a week off in July, I probably won't be able to go anywhere but it will be nice to have a proper rest. Maybe beer gardens will even be open by then. Fingers crossed.
OfficialUK figures. Today it was reported that there were 1,871 new cases and 359 new deaths bringing the total cases to 279,856 and total deaths to 39,728.
