Covid 19 - Over *4,000 (known infected in UK, increase of over 700 from yesterday)

Updated: Mar 22, 2020

*For some reason the actual numbers are no longer being published daily. I don't know if this because they don't know or if numbers are too high and they don't want to panic people. I didn't want to focus on the number of deaths but will have to use that to show the increase from hereon in. UK coronavirus death toll rises to 233 today, increase of 53 from yesterday. The death toll from the coronavirus outbreak in Italy rose by 793 to 4,825.

Edit: I think I finally found the figures: Covid 19 - 5,018 (known infected in UK, increase of 1,035 from yesterday)

I woke up feeling a lot more positive today (well, less weepy anyway!). My friend Sarah rang me whilst I was still in bed, so I got up and we had an 80 minute conversation. She's a teaching assistant at a primary school and says that most of the teachers have just been sobbing in the staff room every day.

They have been told that they will be staying open to look after the children of key workers for the duration of the crisis. No half-terms, so Easter break, no summer holidays. My friend was worried about the risk of the children of key workers getting infected whilst at their school and organised a mass clean up of the classroom and got rid of all clutter, games, toys, tablets etc. They will have one pen and one box of lego which they can sterilise regularly. As spring is here they will try to keep them outside as much as possible, normal teaching no longer applies.

I had a short walk around the estate again. The sun is out but it's really windy. I'm fortunate that I have a lot of green spaces within a few minutes of my house and as we are quite elevated there are lots of great views of the sea and the English coast. Looking a long way into the distance is really therapeutic.

The police have been forced to close Bondi Beach in Australia as it was jam packed with beach goers. People really are mental. I've tried not to look at the news too much today as if it's full of idiots hugging each other outside pubs I'm just going to lose faith in the entire human race.

FFS, I have just seen lots of tweets saying that people seem to be treating this weekend like a bank holiday. Rammed beaches, crowded country parks, Snowdon heaving, tailbacks on the roads into Cornwall and rural Wales. People need shaking. Seriously. I'm too angry to write any more today. I'm going to go and make pizza from tortillas and have a large gin & tonic.
