Spent the first couple of hours this morning crying, weeping and sobbing. I just couldn't stop it. It all started when a whole host of radio stations across Europe decided to play the same song at the same time so that we could all feel united as one. The song they chose was Gerry & The Pacemakers - You'll Never Walk Alone. Oh my giddy aunt. That really opened the floodgates. I lay in bed sobbing with tears soaking the pillow.
After that the slightest thing would set me off. Just seeing a couple of people hugging on TV started the tears flowing as it made me realise that it could be months before I have any human contact. I'm going on a huge hug-fest once this is over.
My friend FaceTimed me after Popmaster (obvs!) and we had a long chat. She said that one of her friends has a marquee hire business who told her that the government had already approached him to see if they could utilise his marquees as temporary morgues. The Pimms tent will never have the same appeal again!
I went for a walk up the estate, it's always pretty quiet and I only passed a couple of people. Someone had left an old metal hatstand/coatrack outside their house with a sign saying "FREE, PLEASE TAKE". I walked past it at first then went back for it as I decided I could repurpose it as a bird feeding station.
Next I had to pop over to Lidl to buy a baguette for lunch and some vegetables for dinner. I was expecting it to be bedlam in there but it was absolutely normal. The shelves were all well stocked and I managed to get everything that I needed. The only difference was that there was now a security guard at the checkouts, but she wasn't required during my visit.
I was doing some more physio in the afternoon when my neighbour Paul knocked on the door. He made sure that he was standing two metres away by the time I opened the door and asked if I was okay. He said if I need anything or start to feel ill that I should just call him. I welled up on the doorstep (in fact I'm welling up again just typing this).
Finally Boris Johnson announced that all pubs, clubs, restaurants, cafes and gyms must close this evening. Thank god, about bloody time. Now I can stop worrying about my idiotic 76 year old Dad going to the pub every night.
I also got a text from my sister saying that she had landed back in the UK and was just waiting for her taxi home. Hallelujah, one less worry.
Just as I was about to start cooking dinner I got a notification that one of my favourite bands BC Camplight were doing a live gofundme gig on Facebook. I propped the iPad up in the kitchen as I baked a Quorn, mushroom and sweetcorn pie. It was WONDERFUL! Bryan is so talented and played lots of their own hits and random songs that us viewers threw at them. He finished with a beautiful version of Bennie & The Jets. I donated a tenner, it was easily worth it. Loads of my favourite bands are going to be doing online gigs in the future so I'm going to have to draw up a spreadsheet of who is doing what and make sure I donate to them all.
I also want to find out ways of supporting my favourite local businesses. The local micro pub The Butterfly Collector says it will be doing take-outs and also offering a delivery service. Whilst Romilly's cafe a the Knapp is doing a Mothering Sunday afternoon tea delivery package.
